Jelonen and Svendsen fastest in stage 2 heats

The second day of China Tour de Ski in Xiwuqi, Inner Mongolia, began with the individual time trial sprint over 1.3k for men and women. Fastest qualifier was Finland's Henri Jelonen, who was 2 seconds faster than Siim Sellis from Estonia and Magnus Frodahl from Norway. The best Chinese skier was Wei Meng in 28th place. Norway's Anna Svendsen also had an advantage of more than 2 seconds on the number 2 female skier, Elodie Bourgeois, who already scored a podium finish yesterday in stage 1 of China TDS. China's Li Lei scored an impressive 7th place in the heats.

China Tour de Ski: Hoegberg wins stage 1

The 2012 China Tour de Ski started this afternoon, 28 December, in Xiwuqi, Inner Mongolia with the traditional mass start 5.7km race for men and women. Sweden's Andreas Hoegberg (photo)immediately proved he is once again in great shape coming to China with a sprint win today over Finland's Kusti Kitttilae. Six seconds later, Philipp Bachl from Austria completed the podium.

The women's competition over 3.8km saw two Norwegian athletes take top honours with Solveig Steinsland edging Solveig Andreassen in another sprint with two. A little further behind was France's Elodie Bourgeois Pin.

Swiss female champion Mischol to CTDS

China Tour de Ski and its main event Vasaloppet China will also feature a number of top female athletes this year. Multiple Swiss champion and three-time Olympic Games qualifier Seraina Mischol will be lining up in Xiwuqi and Changchun as one of the top favourites in the female competition.

Coming from Davos in Switzerland's magnificent Engadin region, Mischol also has 14 World Championship starts on her impressive skiing record, as well as over 100 FIS World Cup starts. Talking about experience!

Estonian Champion joins China Tour de Ski

The 2011 national champion from Estonia, Siim Sellis, has confirmed his participation for this year's China Tour de Ski in Xiwuqi and Changchun. Sellis is in good shape following some decent performances in FIS and World Cup events in Finland, Switzerland and Germany. The 24-year-old youngster so far has achieved his best international results in the Scandinavian Cup, and mainly in the sprint circuit. It will be Sellis' first participation in the China Tour de Ski.

Former TDS stage winner returns to China

The number of confirmed elite skiers for Vasaloppet China and the overall China Tour de Ski is increasing as we are edging closer and closer to the big week. Swiss skiing star Gaudenz Flury, winner of a very tough Tour de Ski stage in Shangri La, Yunnan Province, two years ago, is coming back to China to take part in the competitions in Xiwuqi and Changchun.

The 31-year-old Flury (photo right) is an excellent sprinter, and will definitely be among the top favourites for the races that take place in Inner Mongolia on 28 and 29
